The Journal of Chinese Arts and Cultural Heritage Studies is an academic periodical co-sponsored by the School of Arts at Nanchang University, the Institute for Advanced Studies in Chinese Arts and Cultural Heritage, and the China Mei Lanfang Art and Culture Research Association. Published biannually by the Commercial Press—one of China’s top 100 publishers—the journal adheres to the philosophy of "upholding tradition while embracing innovation, and fostering openness and collaboration." Focusing on cutting-edge fields such as the construction of autonomous knowledge system for Chinese arts, cultural heritage protection and inheritance, and interdisciplinary research, the journal aims to provide a high-level, specialized platform for academic exchange and promote the creative transformation and innovative development of China’s outstanding traditional culture.
I. Scope of Submissions
We welcome contributions to the following sections:
Art Theory and Criticism: Chinese art theory and discourse systems, foundational art theories, methodologies in art history, and critical practices.
Cultural Heritage Studies: Protection of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, digital preservation technologies, revitalization of traditional crafts, etc.
Disciplinary Art Studies: Innovative research in specific art forms, including opera, drama, film, music, dance, fine arts, and calligraphy. Examples include regional operas, folk art forms, performance theory, cross-cultural theatrical comparisons, and more.
Art-Technology Integration: AI-driven artistic creation, cultural industry management, digital humanities, visualization of cultural heritage, etc.
Thematic Studies: Special topics such as "Mei Lanfang Art and Culture Studies," "Tang Xianzu and Opera Dissemination," or "Regional Art History of Jiangxi." Proposals for themed issues or individual submissions are both encouraged.
Academic Reviews and Trends: Book reviews of significant scholarly works, conference summaries, profiles of distinguished scholars or leading research institutions.
II. Submission Guidelines
Originality and Ethics: Manuscripts must be unpublished, adhere to academic integrity, and avoid plagiarism. Responsibility for content rests solely with the author(s). Citations and references should follow the GB/T 7714–2015 Information and Documentation—Rules for Bibliographic References.
Format and Length:
Articles: 8,000–15,000 words (exceptional submissions may exceed 20,000 words with prior approval).
Book reviews/reviews: ≤5,000 words.
Include a Word document with title, abstract (≤300 words), keywords (3–6), author biography (name, affiliation, title, research interests), and contact information. Append English translations of the title and abstract. Use 12-point Times New Roman font for main text and 10.5-point for notes. Follow the Journal of Chinese Arts and Cultural Heritage Studies technical style guide for citations.
Peer Review: The journal operates a double-blind peer-review process. Authors will be notified of decisions within 2 months of submission. Unaccepted manuscripts may be resubmitted elsewhere.
Copyright and Publication: By submission, authors grant exclusive rights for publication and digital dissemination. No article processing charges apply. Two complimentary copies of the issue will be provided upon publication. Authors may negotiate royalties separately; no additional payment will be made post-publication.
