On December 26, the 9th edition of Beijing Daily, under the column "Jingbao Reading · Humanities", carried a signed article by Teacher Zhang Xiaowei of our institute entitled Wang Wei’s Realm Is More Accessible to Ordinary People.
Based on Zhang Xiaowei’s monograph Biography of Wang Wei, the article introduces the ancient view of understanding Wang Wei as the "human talent" among the "three powers of heaven, earth and humanity". It argues that Wang Wei’s lifelong "spiritual history" presents an image of a man of ordinary origin who endured a long journey of life and eventually attained a peaceful state of mind within the reach of ordinary people.
The article holds that Wang Wei stood at a historical and literary juncture where the contradictory movements had relatively subsided and harmony prevailed, comparable to Mozart’s position in the history of Western music. Therefore, "reconciliation" can be used to interpret Wang Wei.
From the perspective of literary and artistic theory, the article discusses Wang Wei’s achievements in painting and music, and puts forward the view that Wang Wei brought Chinese poetry to maturity in the pursuit of "artistic conception".
It is reported that Biography of Wang Wei was published by Zhejiang Literature & Art Publishing House in October 2025. Drawing on research in documents, literature, art and philosophy, the book conducts a detailed and innovative exploration of Wang Wei’s spiritual history and artistic career. Covering many prominent figures of the Tang Dynasty, the author adheres to the principle of "no writing without ancient documentary evidence" and avoids fictionalization, presenting readers with a vivid panorama of history and culture in the glorious Tang Dynasty.
