Working Conference of Nanchang University's Major Cultural Project on Jiangxi Opera Genres Convened

Time:2026-10-23

The working conference of Nanchang University's first batch of major cultural projects, "Documentary Compilation and Database Construction of Jiangxi Opera Genres", was held at the School of Arts, Nanchang University. The conference was conducted in a hybrid format, combining on-site and online participation, with over 70 experts and project members attending from Nanchang University, Jiangxi Provincial Institute of Culture and Tourism Research, Yuzhang Normal University, Gannan Normal University, East China University of Technology, Jiangxi Provincial Gan Opera Theater, and other institutions both within and beyond the province.

Professor Liu Zhen, Distinguished Professor of Nanchang University, Dean of the Advanced Research Institute for Chinese Art and Cultural Heritage, and Project Leader, presided over the meeting. He reviewed and summarized the preliminary work carried out so far. Focusing on the upcoming repertoire cataloguing phase, the meeting established a unified work checklist, writing standards, and supporting materials, with all sources of literature duly noted.

The conveners of each opera genre and project members engaged in lively exchanges and discussions on writing conventions, task allocation, and staffing arrangements. Scholars and experts including He Shijian, Liu Jianting, Li Yiping, Jiang Guojiang, Liu Feng, Zhu Rui, Wu Wenjun, Lin Yu, Fang Liang, Huang Qingxi, and Wen Huilian delivered speeches in succession.

The meeting required that all cataloguing manuscripts be submitted through online documents, with the content to be integrated into the comprehensive repertoire catalog manuscript and further developed into a specialized database. The compilation work should be grounded in play scripts, on-site observation (audiovisual materials), and field investigation, with a focus on the systematic organization and research of primary sources, while strictly prohibiting any non-standard practices.

The convening of this conference marks the full launch of the project, which has now entered its crucial implementation and writing phase.
