The Performance major and the Performance (Chinese Tea Arts) track are affiliated with the Department of Drama, Film and Television. Established in 2000, it was the first undergraduate institution in Jiangxi Province to offer a major in Performance. The Performance major is a Jiangxi Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Major and a Five-Star Undergraduate Major. The Department features a multi-functional rotunda and a small theater that integrate drama rehearsal, film viewing, TV production, and experimental filmmaking.
The Performance major is committed to cultivating well-rounded, high-quality, and versatile drama and film arts professionals with strong moral character, intellectual ability, physical fitness, aesthetic appreciation, and practical skills. Graduates will possess excellent humanistic and scientific qualities, a strong sense of social responsibility, a solid professional foundation, innovative thinking abilities, and the ability to adapt to societal needs. Employment opportunities primarily include film and television companies, television stations, radio stations, art troupes, government agencies (including propaganda and education departments), enterprises and institutions, and universities.
Core courses include Basic Theory of Performance, Performance Skills, Stage Speech, Body Training, Fundamentals of Directing, and Script Writing.
Adhering to the educational philosophy of “deep integration of teaching and practice” and “the four-in-one integration of teaching, research, artistic creation, and industrialization”, the major strengthens students’ basic course experiments, professional training, and artistic practice across the complete industrial chain of drama and film products, including videography, sound recording, editing, directing, acting, video editing, and packaging. It regularly organizes events such as showcases of script fragments, basic lines training showcases, and graduation plays, forming distinctive teaching characteristics. The major actively strengthens external exchanges and has established foundations for communication with institutions such as the Chinese National Academy of Arts, Beijing Film Academy, The Central Academy of Drama, Shanghai Theatre Academy, Nanjing University, Communication University of China, and the Graduate Institute of Filmmaking at Taipei National University of the Arts. These partnerships provide convenient conditions for strengthening faculty-student communication, academic exchange, and building bridges of cooperation.
