Research Achievements: Former Director of the Mei Lanfang Memorial Museum of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, President of the China Mei Lanfang Cultural Arts Research Association, and Honorary President of the China Nuo Opera Research Association. Also served as the Director of the Institute of Chinese Opera at the Chinese National Academy of Arts.

Major publications include more than 10 monographs such as Folk Mulian Culture in China, On Chinese Opera Studies, History of Chinese Aesthetic Fashions: Life in the Goulan, History and Aesthetic Evolution of Chinese Opera, Chinese Opera: Criticism and Stance, Kunqu Opera and Literati Culture, and The Endless Mei Lanfang. Also edited over 40 works, including Ontology and Return of Chinese Opera Theory, Collection of Rare Opera Scripts from Mei Lanfang’s Collection (50 volumes), and Mei Lanfang’s Fragrance—Mei Lanfang in the World (3 volumes).

Serves as the Chief Expert for the Major Project of the National Social Science Fund in Arts: “Research on the Construction of Contemporary Chinese Opera Criticism and Discourse System”. Awarded the honorary title of “Outstanding Theoretical Researcher in Kunqu Opera” by the Ministry of Culture in 2009 and selected as a recipient of the Special Allowance of the State Council in 2023.
